Check out this crazy flying sphere that is came out the research department from the Japan Ministry of Defense who have created the world's first spherical flying machine. It can take off and land vertically, as well as hover much like a helicopter.  The wings inside allow it to work like a propeller plane so it can move quickly through the air.
