Bringing The Theatre To Your Home

In this age of home theaters we often wonder how the movie industry stays alive. The running costs of a Colosseum-esque building with multiple projectors seems like a thing of the past when people can have the same experience at home. The consumer electronics industry has been pushing for bigger and better TV's, stereos and movies so that the individual does not have to leave the comfort of their house in order to get a great entertainment experience.
Combine this home theater phenomenon with the new revolution of digital distribution and the acquisition of media has become so easy that we probably will not see brick and mortar movie rental stores much longer. If we further investigate internet streaming services and how they have revolutionized the way we watch TV and movies, and even how we acquire our games is this going to cause the downfall of regular cable and satellite networks?
The companies of the past 50 or so years have had a stranglehold on how media is delivered into the home. If you wanted to watch a particular station, you paid for it. If you wanted to get a movie, you went to the store and bought/rented it. Now that consumers have the ability to press a button and get almost any kind of media be it books, music, movies, or games - what does the future hold for the archaic methods of delivery from these behemoths of the past? Are they able to survive? What will they have to change in order to do so?
There is something about going out to the movies and it is definitely a different feeling than watching it in your family room or basement, but you cannot argue with the convenience of being able to access unlimited digital media under you own roof. Digital distribution is definitely where the industry is headed, just look at what iTunes did for the crashing music market. It gave ease of access to the consumer and allowed them to easily purchase desired media. Gaming as a whole is moving in this direction, and the PC market has been at the forefront of this method with services such as Valve and Impulse. With the latest generation of consoles Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all been able to provide gamers with digital releases straight to their consoles, and this is only becoming more common with full titles able to be paid and played at anytime (as long as you are connected to the internet)
Now that you have all the access to the digital media right into your home, what do you do with it?
Enter Psyko. We started with gaming, because it is the fastest growing and largest of all the media industry. Psyko Audio is providing the service to those gamers that do not want to disturb the family/neighbors or maybe cannot afford a giant surround sound theater setup. In the first case, let's face it - gamers play well into the night and these are the most precious hours of sleep for non-gamers. If you have roomates, a family, or paper thin walls you are limiting your gaming experience NOT being able to have full surround sound. In the second case, home theater systems can run upwards of $1000 dollars and the Psyko Audio headset is a viable (and quieter) alternative to the large room-filling speaker setups.
At the lab we are concentrating on gaming right now and plan on moving into music and movies in the near future. Do not let proximity hinder your gaming experience. Psyko gives you the most natural surround sound in a headset and why would you sacrifice your own enjoyment and the comfort of others when you don't have to?
