With E3 wrapping up this past week we have seen a slew of new technology come out of almost all of the big name companies.  Each of the press briefings demonstrated how Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all want to move into the next phase of technology for gaming.  For some it means 3d gaming for the masses and for others it is a total body interactive experience that favors motion control over the joysticks of the past.

Microsoft revealed
Kinect (previously named Project Natal), their controller-free motion controlled camera unit.
It definitely showed promise as it toted head tracking, facial recognition, and body scans.  Kinect wants gamers to have a more 'connected' experience in the home where they will be able to use it to navigate their menus, video chat to friends and family, and of course motion control for their family-friendly games.  One of the cooler aspects was the body scanning for the fitness programs (Ubisoft's "Your Shape") that presented a very accurate depiction of the person in front of the camera and gave consumers another excuse to not go to the gym.

Nintendo brought forth their Nintendo 3DS, a self contained 3d portable gaming unit that utilizes 3d technology without glasses.

Having the best selling handheld of all time (25 million sold), why wouldn't Nintendo improve on an already-good thing.  They know how to sell their product and with an iteration on their existing technology Nintendo is taking a leap past the 3d goggles and bringing 3d right into the hands of the gamer.

Sony presented the
Playstation Move, a 1:1 motion control device quite similar to the Wiimote.

Ice cream jokes aside, the technology is definitely impressive and the strong point being the precision and accuracy to which the controller matches the user's motion.   How much of an impact will this have on the gaming market I don't know, as it seems like something that has already been done by a competitor.  If we give them the benefit of the doubt and they utilize the motion control to the fullest extent then we will see some impressive things, especially on the Ps3 hardware (the most powerful of the current generation of consoles).

So where does this fit with Psyko Audio?

Psyko Audio uses Psykowave technology, something that is not understood all that well and is often overlooked as a factor when it comes to the gaming experience.  That being said, this is something that is new to the market and everyone is not necessarily comfortable with.  When you get used to listening to everything in stereo the jump to surround sound can be quite disorienting because it is not what we are used to.  We all grew up playing games in stereo and only now are we seeing 5.1 surround sound as a standard for video games.  When you change something this drastic, it does not always go smoothly and people are reluctant to adopt because it is so different than what the have come to know and love in their sound tastes.

Many people write off 5.1 sound in headphones and do not realize how important sound is in their games.  Here at Psyko Audio we are trying to change that.  The sound in games is as important as the visuals and the control, and they all go together to complete the gaming experience and immerse the player in whatever they are doing.  With 3d coming for your eyes and motion control coming for your hands, why would you suppress your sense of hearing and only provide your ears with limited   You are limiting your gaming experience, and the next evolution in sound technology is already here - and Psyko Audio is bringing you that technology.

Psyko is at the forefront of audio for gaming, and as we have seen with any new technology, sometimes people are not ready for it - Are you?
