In case you didn't hear, Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) is out and is set to shatter all sorts of sales records. Whether you buy into the hype or not, there is no denying that MW3 is going to do well. Now you are probably asking yourself, what does this have to do with Psyko Audio? Well sound it is a matter of life and death when you are in a game and Psyko headsets help to keep you alive.  There is no denying that Psyko headsets outperform the competition and will help you to stay above your opponents on the scoreboard.

It is a perfect pairing (like a fine wine and cheese) so if you are playing MW3, you are going to want...wait - make that need a Psyko headset if you want to truly hear everything going on in your game.  We did get a chance to play this week and we had a blast with the first initial run.  We played multiplayer and Spec Ops but have yet to touch the campaign, which we hear is a pretty standard short roller coaster of ridiculousness.

Some of our first impressions of what they added and kept in Modern Warfare 3.

New things we noticed:
  • Each weapon now has its own level.  As you use the weapon and it gains experience you unlock perks and attachments specific to each gun which are separate from your character level. Basically acts as a carrot on the stick so you will always be gaining levels and wanting to get the next unlock for your favorite weapon.
  • New Killstreaks have been added (as well as some old favorites) and you are able to customize killstreaks for each loadout. Also, there are 3 different 'strike packages' (Assault, Support, Specialist) that you can choose from to suit your play style.
  • Obviously the game comes with a slew of new maps and they definitely seem smaller this time around.  With them being new it is tough to know where the sweet spots are, so we relied heavily on footsteps and gunfire sounds to know where to look for trouble.
  • In addition to the classic game modes (Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy) a couple new game modes have been included.  Kill Confirmed is by far our favorite as we were able to rank up pretty quickly with collecting all the dog tags from our kills.

Some old ideas that they kept in:

  • The gameplay still feels very run and gun.  In the early cycle of the COD games EVERYONE loves to camp. Hopefully this rectifies itself over the year but it probably has something to do with not knowing the maps well enough yet.
  • It is all about being aggressive.  There is no sitting back and smelling the flowers because you will get shot or be left in the dust.  You need to be very aware of everything that is going around because you die very quickly when not paying attention. Using a sub-par headset will cause this effect to increase dramatically.
  • The perks have been kept relatively the same, which is neither good nor bad.  On the plus side, we can refer to many of our previous classes and use the same perks in the load-outs.  Recon, Assassin, and Stalker all seem really cool and add a nice variation to each of the perk Tiers.

So with that being said, you done good Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer, and thanks for making a game that pairs so well with our headsets. Don't play MW3 with sub par sound, it will honestly make the difference in your game so be sure to get the Psyko Kryptons or Psyko Carbons on your head. You will really have the unfair advantage.
